In comments to Al-Modon, our Economist Mulham al-Jazmati said President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s visit to Saudi Arabia marks a strategic shift toward executable regional partnerships rather than political gestures.
He noted that the trip crowns Syria’s gradual reintegration after years of isolation, with Riyadh’s commitment to the land-link project connecting the Gulf, the Levant, and Turkey through Syria as clear proof of intent.
Al-Jazmati explained that the corridor could restore Syria’s role as a regional transit hub, cutting shipping costs and time versus the Suez route and reviving the domestic transport and logistics sectors.
He added that transit fees and customs revenues may provide a steady source of foreign exchange, while Saudi participation signals Syria’s return to the Arab and global economic map.
