MAKING SENSE OF SYRIA'S ECONOMY

Karam Shaar Advisory LTD

Masah Barakat

Research Intern

I am a masters student at the University of Amsterdam pursuing a degree in Economics. Based in Doha, I hold a Bsc in Economics from Georgetown University in Qatar. Before joining Karam Shaar Advisory, I worked at the Qatari National Planning Council where I collaborated with a team of consultants and public policy experts to streamline budgetary decision making and create economic planning infrastructures. In my previous roles, I worked with government and corporate stakeholders to produce policy reports and impact assessments based on economic data. This included designing and implementing survey-based research, organizing datasets, and contributing to structured analyses that informed strategic decisions.
Keen on giving back to my homeland, I joined the team to integrate my skillset into the Syrian context. My interests include primary sector economics, the intersection of geopolitics and economic development, transitional justice, and data science. In my free time, I play guitar and read about the history of West Asia.
