Captagon: Sprouting Up in Other Countries

Iraq’s first captagon production facility bust today came while its PM was talking the region’s top supplier into curbing the drug’s smuggling from Syria.


With demand in the Gulf holding steady, production know-how available across the region, endemic corruption, the absence of alternative streams of revenue to ordinary civilians, and the uncoordinated and often misguided policy responses, the captagon crisis is here to stay—not for years, but decades.
