The agony of Syrian farmers, persisting for decades, resurfaces with each wheat harvest season.

Today, officials from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Protection fined some farmers in Hama who dared to sell their harvest to the private sector and referred them to court, where they may face imprisonment.

The fine is three times the regulated official selling price.
