Trying to comment on what's going on in Palestine without understanding the historical background of the conflict is madness. It's like saying that a cat is scratching people at random without acknowledging that people in its life until now have kicked it out, cornered it, starved it, and beaten it.

I'm currently teaching a university course on the Arab-Israeli conflict and my key takeaway is this: you can't be an academic and pro-the Israeli government at the same time.

Note that most casualties in previous confrontations, as is the case in this current one, have been Palestinian.
