Syrian Refugees in Lebanon to Be Deported… Some Perhaps to Their Deaths

Lebanese President General Michel Aoun said today that Syrian refugees in Lebanon will be deported (returned to Syria) in groups starting next week.

UNHCR polls have consistently shown that Syrians in Lebanon prefer to stay there. Even with worsening economic conditions, political instability, and the rise in xenophobia against Syrians over the past few years, a higher, not lower, share of Syrians wanted to stay in Lebanon.
