Syria's Finance Minister claims that a flat income tax will replace the current progressive tax system starting in early 2025.

For the layperson, a flat tax on income means everyone pays the same percentage of their income, regardless of how much they earn.

A flat income tax is easier to administer, reducing compliance costs and enhancing tax collection while reducing evasion. It's more common in countries pursuing neoliberal capitalist policies.

However, it is inherently unfair to lower-income individuals who pay the same rate as high earners.
