The Syrian conflict may appear frozen. What many fail to understand is that the wind continues to blow in Assad's favor.  

The increasing burden of refugees, the cost of the humanitarian response, and the captagon threat hasten normalization. It might take years, but the trend is undeniable.

   

In that sense, Assad's footdragging makes perfect sense. Watching our sacrifices being wasted is agonizing.
