How Large Is the EU’s Latest Aid Package to Lebanon?
How big is the EU's aid package to Lebanon announced yesterday? The EU announced an aid package to Lebanon of one billion EUR (~$1.1 billion USD) to be delivered over three years.
Three-quarters of the package will be allocated to supporting Syrian refugees and helping Lebanese authorities prevent potential asylum seekers from reaching the EU.
Over the past 8 years, Lebanon has been receiving an average of $1.2 billion in aid per year under the "Syrian Arab Republic Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP)," over 70% of which came from the EU and its member states.
So this package is relatively small. Exactly how small will depend on whether it will affect the pledges of members states for the 3RP plan for 2025 and beyond.
We'll find out on 27 May.
