Syria’s Drought Is Easing

The drought that decimated Syria's agricultural output last year is luckily dissipating. Rainfall this year is on par with or higher than the historical average from 1989 to 2015.

What a relief for most Syrians, especially in the northeast.

In 2021, the International Rescue Committee stated that the drought was the worst in seven decades.

This makes the views Nick Lyall and I presented in our latest report admittedly pessimistic.

I usually keep an eye on the agricultural situation using this excellent tool from the FAO. You might find it helpful.
