Syrian Merchants Resort to Weighing Money Amid Inflation
With inflation increasing and the government refusing to issue banknotes with higher denominations to avoid the cost, merchants in Syria have reportedly started to weigh money instead of counting it. To buy a fridge, Sawt al-Asimah reports, you'll need 1.568 kilograms worth of 5000 banknotes. The weight increases to 4 kilograms if the amount is paid in units of 2000, and so on! We're not there yet, but with Assad's wise leadership, we might soon be where Germany was following WWI or Zimbabwe just recently.
