Syrian Regime Courts Issue New in Absentia Sentences for Terrorism, Including 22 Death Penalties
The summary of judgments we obtained on 9 December 2021, reveals that Syrian regime courts have again issued eighty in absentia sentences. These judgments were issued by: Damascus Criminal Court, First Damascus Criminal Court, Second Damascus Criminal Court, Third Damascus Criminal Court, Third Financial Damascus Criminal Court, Fourth Damascus Criminal Court, and Aleppo Criminal Court.
The documents reveal that 22 of these judgments include the death penalty, 21 of which are for terrorism charges against the following individuals:
-Fadel al-Habbali, son of Ahmad al-Abdullah
-Issam Ali Bouidani
-Khairi Mahmoud al-Taie
-Ahmad Ali al-Daqr
-Ibrahim al-Bakri al-Qarshi al-Samarai, son of Awad (al-Baghdadi)-
-Ahmad Hussein al-Sharaa (al-Jolani)
-Mohammad Daham Khalaf
Ahmad Darwish, son of Khaled and Mahasen-
-Khaled Mustafa Tafoor
-Mohammad Jamal Ramadan, son of Mohammad Munir and Maryam
-Amjad Hashish, son of Mahmoud and Adeeba
-Ammar al-Wawi, son of Abdullah and Zuheira
-Adnan Khattab, son of Abdullah and Khatoon-
-Munther al-Akarta, son of Mohammad Abdul and Sameera
-Abdul Hakim Ar’our, son of Ibrahim and Mahdiya
-Louay al-Jarad, son of Mohammad and Qatna
-Khaled al-Naimi, son of Mubarak and Alia-
-Jassem al-Akrab, son of Mohammad and Faraz-
-Samer Burghul, son of Abduljalil and Fawzia
-Khalil al-Majid, son of Hassan and Zaghbara
-and Mazoud al-Othman, son of Jamal and Zahra.
Some of the factions to which these individuals belong, such as Jaysh al-Islam and ISIS, were mentioned. Additionally, Rami al-Jamil, son of Muti and Safaa, was sentenced to death for drug trafficking and smuggling.
Some names overlap with those listed in documents we published on 23 April 2021, and 5 March 2021. Individuals previously sentenced in those lists include:

(all accused of committing terrorist acts and sentenced to death).
It is noteworthy that all judgments include the seizure of the accused’s assets and properties.
