Hats off to the employees of the Syrian Petroleum Company for beginning the repair of the heavy crude oil pipeline that connects the Rmeilan fields in northeastern Syria to the Homs refinery and the port of Baniyas. The pipeline has been out of service for 15 years and has hundreds of faults along it.
This is a quick start, carried out with very low employee salaries, under difficult working conditions, and without relying on foreign companies.
P.S. Most likely, heavy crude will continue to be exported because refining capacity is low due to severe malfunctions at the Homs refinery. In contrast, refined products or light crude will be imported for processing at the Baniyas refinery.
