Syria as a Land Transit Corridor
- Issue 18

By: Charles Lister
“Syria facilitated another first this week, with a commercial convoy transiting from Türkiye to Iraq via the Tel Abyad crossing in Raqqa and the al-Yaroubiya crossing in Hasakeh. This is just the latest in a series of developments highlighting Syria’s potential as a geopolitically valuable corridor for economic exchange connecting Asia to the Middle East and Europe. With the Straits of Hormuz ever vulnerable and Red Sea security highly volatile, direct land transit – via road or railway – is an increasingly attractive proposition.”
